Arts & Culture print version

Bovis Lend Lease has global experience in building, redeveloping and refurbishing facilities for the performing and fine arts, including theatres, museums, galleries and libraries. Our skills in design, regeneration and urban planning have facilitated the creation of cultural facilities that are more than just buildings – they are genuine public spaces that can be enjoyed in many ways.

All cultural facilities have specific requirements and our expertise in each type of building ensures that our delivery of cultural projects meets the specific needs of the sector – for example, the delivery of leading acoustic solutions for concert and recital halls such as the Melbourne Recital Centre in Australia.

In many cases, we have undertaken major redevelopment work on a facility which needs to remain operational throughout. Our skills in this area allow for seamless operation of the existing sections of the building, so that patrons can continue to enjoy the facility during construction. In addition, we have international experience in heritage restoration, notably the historic Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London.

In addition to the creation of individual buildings, our work has included landscaping and masterplanning of sites, creating interconnected facilities that showcase good architectural design as well as housing important cultural artefacts and performances.

Our expertise in sustainable design has led to leading-edge solutions such as the implementation of a river-water cooling system for the Millennium Arts at the Queensland Cultural Centre – an innovation which will reduce the reliance on electricity for air conditioning.

Our projects in this sector include:
Melbourne Recital Centre and MTC Theatre
Millennium Arts at the Queensland Cultural Centre
The National Museum of Australia
